This happens to everyone. You have a productive conversation or meeting, send a follow-up email…and nothing. There are many terms for this: MIA, ghosted, no response…
You felt good about the meeting, but now you’re wondering, “What happened?!”
Some typical follow-up approaches you may have tried:
- Just following up
- Circling back
- Do you have time to reconnect?
- Have you had a chance to review X?
Most of the time, these approaches don’t feel great, and it seems like we’re grasping for engagement. Take a moment, shift your mindset to action instead of emotion, and develop a more structured follow-up format.

Remind
- Remind them why they were interested. *Notice I did not say what your offer was.
Give Value
- Provide something of value, like an article, podcast, or quote. It can tie back to your “remind” section or reference something discussed in the conversation.
Specific Options
- When asking for a meeting, offer specific time slots to make it as easy as possible for your client.

An example may look like this:
Hi Julie,
Thank you for your time last week. To recap, a few key items you highlighted as important were:
- X
- Y
- Z
I found an article related to Z that you might find interesting (attached). Specifically I found the section on A very useful to tie into what you are doing.
You mentioned wanting a follow-up call after discussing with your team. As we head into the weekend, how does next week look for you?
I have availability on Tuesday at [time] or Thursday at [time]. Please let me know what works best for you, and I’ll send an invite.
Try this format next time and remember:
- People are busy and you are not their main focus.
- Don’t get caught up in the emotion.
- Always support and bring value first.
